DR APOSTOLOS (JOHN) POLYZOIDES (THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE OF THE DOCTOR ON PAROS)
APOSTOLOS (JOHN) POLYZOIDES built this home for his wife and family of three boys in 1990 as a holiday home and somewhere to escape to from the stressful life of being an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon and head of department at two busy hospitals near Birmingham, England.
He had been born into the Greek community in Alexandria Egypt when it was a thriving multicultural society in the 1930’s and had an English education before studying at Medical School and going to England to carry on with his post graduate studies.
He became a senior surgeon and pioneer in knee replacement surgery, designing two knee prosthesis before
retiring to Greece and his beloved island home.
His door was always open to anyone with an orthopedic problem and he was keen to help the local community in as many ways as possible, being the cofounder of the public library and voluntary President of the main medical center in Parikia.
Later on he wrote a book on life in multicultural Alexandria and became involved in the very active art groups on the island.
